"The Noise"

written by: Heather Walker

  • The Noise gets unbearable

I want to close my eyes

Then bury my head in the sand

as I wait for the waves to go by

    To bury me deeper

    and deeper in the sea

    The wind blows just right

Until the only sounds I hear

Is the ocean talking to me

    Crashing into me

    Cleansing my mind,

    my heart, my soul

Making me believe in great things

    beautiful things

    making me feel peaceful within

    But then the storm begins

    waves get rougher

    I feel trapped and scared

    I can't breathe

  • But I can feel

Where is the calm of the sea?

I don't wanna feel the pain no more

the waves get harder to bare

the wind blows me into a awkward stare

    where I can see

    see the beautiful place

where the ocean is clear and blue

    but i can't get there

i'm losing sight of it again

was it all just a dream

    a figment of my imagination

    maybe

    i guess anything is possible.

I originally wrote "The Noise" when I lived in Harlem, New York back in the late 90s. Years later, I was working at a nightclub called, "Kiss n Fly". One of the D.J.s there named Felly was looking for an artist for new music. I had been working on new music and was looking for a producer.

The music that I was writing at the time was my first attempt at writing "commercial"/marketable songs.

  • He was not impressed. And literally told me that it sucked. And he was right. It wasn't good

But I had one song that I had been working on. That was far from commercial. It had no real "structure" and was completely raw.

  • I asked him to give me one more chance.

    He did.

I recorded my vocals that day and "The Noise" was born.

The song was remixed by a number of producers, played at some of the hottest clubs in New York City, included in a compilation with Stevie freakin Wonder, and I was booked to perform in Ibiza.

You can listen to the tracks here.

When I live in Cape Town, South Africa there was a massive storm.

  • The worst they had seen in nearly 40 years

  • I filmed the entire experience.

  • and made a little music video for it too

I felt as though the energy from this storm fit perfectly with the words and the vibe of the song.
