The blue room
written by heather walker
Four walls, six sides all around
no windows, no light
someone painted the walls blue
i've put pictures on the wall
so that when I lie on the floor
i can imagine that I'm somewhere else
Sleep doesn't come easy
the egg crate isn't much of a bed
One could go crazy in a room like this
For someone like me
It could push one over the edge
of what though
there's no balcony
nowhere to fall
so the only way to go is up then
that's what they say
At least I have a place to sleep
Some food to eat
Heat that creeps in from the other rooms
I can make this a home
In my fantasy land at best
Slowly erasing the line between
my reality and everything else
Slowly lose my mind
to the concrete jungle
I once loved and admired
no it's cold and crowded
but I'm not taking myself out of it

My choice to live through this phase
this necessary phase of my life
cause otherwise I wouldn't be here
I could cry about it
Lose faith if I wanted
Why bother?
It won't help the situation
It'll only make me depressed
Feeling sad and alone
wondering why
When it just is
I put myself here
No one to blame
Blame for what
Giving me a home?
That would be funny
Grateful to have a place to lie my head
But I'm gonna work my ass off
To get to a warm bed
Four walls, six sides all around
So I'm not in paradise anymore
It's all a part of the journey
I know I'm here cause I wanna be
