I grew up in the Entertainment Industry.
This is footage from an old promotion video that I was creating for Model101: Not Your Typical Modeling School back in 2014. Model101 was created to protect, educate, guide, inspire and develop new talent as they entered into the Entertainment Industry. I showed them the good, the bad and the ugly. Both softly, sometimes loudly, but always directly. Knowledge is power and we wanted to provide them with the necessary tools to survive the industry. Hopefully, with one’s soul and integrity intact. No guarantees were offered, and I never dangled success, or fame…if anything I tried to remove the glitz, and the so-called glamour that is rarely what it seems, And often requires, “selling of the soul” in one way or another. But less, for those who “know better”.
The Entertainment Industry can be a harsh place, yes. But even worse for the weaker one’s, desperate to escape themselves, their lives, their traumas, as well as those that are doing it for survival, not only for themselves, but for the “family back home”. Scouting in poor countries and cities around the world. Some think how lucky they were to be born pretty, or even “special”, only to discover that the Industry has a sick sense for these things…I mean, objects. You're not a person anymore, just an object, a prop, and a warm body to touch…maybe, sometimes, or not. It depends on the person, place, the casting, audition, the party, the set, or location. It’s a perfect hunting ground. Secrets hidden in plain sight. The lights, the camera, the “life” can fill that void, at times, until it doesn’t. What would you do for fame? For money? For your family back home?
If you’re doing it for fame and the money, your soul won’t last. But those weren’t the ones that needed me the most. The ones with excitement, passion, determination, talent, or no talent, but had love for the arts, …those are the ones…because when the industry breaks them, it can be harder to get back up. When doing something you love requires going against who you are…but that’s the business sometimes…especially if you don’t know any better.
